📢 Many everyday tech features—captions, voice assistants, even audiobooks—were originally created for disabled users.
I just finished Against Technoableism by Ashley Shew and was struck by how much everyday tech was pioneered by disabled communities—yet they rarely get credit.
Tech that started as accessibility tools:
✅ Captions → Now essential for videos everywhere
✅ Text-to-Speech & Voice Assistants → Became Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant
✅ Audiobooks → Now a billion-dollar industry
✅ Autocorrect & Predictive Text → First developed for motor disabilities
Yet when these innovations go mainstream, disabled voices behind them are often erased.
How much would tech have evolved differently if disabled innovators had been recognized from the start?

@Sami Downing This is a great approach! I have implemented alt text on my recent posts as well, small detail but it makes the difference for some people.
