A few months ago, I built a pro bono Squarespace site for a high school friend turned blacksmith, to showcase his work, sell products, manage projects, and invoice clients. During the project, I realized his made-to-order products couldn't use Squarespace's checkout flow since there is no stock, and items often had customizations. So I coded a solution to bypass the checkout entirely by adding inquiry buttons that pass details to a form to capture customer info and requests. A lot of additional work for a free project! This week, a paying client asked for a similar flow, but with orders sent via pre-filled WhatsApp messages. So I just had to modify my existing code. The moral of the story is, solving one client's unique problem (paid/unpaid) often creates reusable solutions you can sell to others. So things always work out.
