Shopify just made Liquid storefronts faster.
Shopify is now streaming parts of the page to the browser earlier, helping Liquid storefronts start loading sooner.
The result?
⚡~29% improvement in median TTFB at p75
⚡FCP and LCP also improved
⚡No changes required from merchants
But there’s an important point for developers:
Your theme structure still matters.
Where you place critical CSS, fonts, scripts, and {{ content_for_header }} can affect how much of this improvement users actually experience.
Shopify is getting faster at the platform level — but well-optimized themes still matter.

Shopify quietly changed how it counts a session this week, and if your conversion rate looks different starting September 21, this is why.
The rollout runs September 21 to 23. Three things changed under the hood. Sessions used to end automatically at midnight UTC, so a shopper browsing late at night got counted as two sessions. Now a session only ends after 30 minutes of inactivity, so that same visit counts as one. Second, a shopper who lands straight on checkout from a cart link, with no pageview at all, now counts as a session where before it didn't. Third, identified bot traffic is filtered out of session reports by default.
None of this means your store actually changed. Sessions, conversion rate, add to cart rate, checkout rate and bounce rate can all move in either direction depending on which of the three effects dominates for your traffic mix. Less bot noise pushes conversion rate up, more counted no pageview sessions pushes it down.
Five minute check before you react to a number. Pull your orders and sales for the same period. If those are flat but conversion rate jumped or dropped this week, it is the measurement change, not your store. Compare like for like only after September 23, once the rollout has finished on your account.
