Hello everyone! My name is Cole, and I’m sooo excited to FINALLY be sharing my submission to the #cantinachallenge. I apologize if my submission is a little lengthy (I'm excited lol)

My submission is a pilot episode called “The Last Sunset,” a part of my original series, Awakened.

Awakened is a cinematic sci-fi drama that follows Eli Carter, a 22-year-old living in New York City during an existential energy crisis. He grew up in foster care, never knowing his parents, and spent his entire life feeling like he doesn’t belong. When beings from another planet begin tearing through the city, Eli discovers that something extraordinary has been hidden inside him. As his abilities awaken, he is pulled into a fight between his past, unexplained powers, and a supernatural threat that has been searching for him.

The pilot follows Eli through what begins as an ordinary night. Alone and disconnected from the world around him, Eli is suddenly awakened by screams and chaos. As panic spreads through the city, he encounters a mysterious creature with the power to control energy. These creatures, known as Currents, seem to know exactly who Eli is. As panic takes over him, something inside Eli awakens. Terrified and unable to control the energy surging through his body, Eli realizes that his life will never be the same.

Where the series would go next:

After the pilot, humanity is forced into a fight against the Currents. Eli begins searching for answers about what happened to him and the Current that found him. What he doesn’t know is that his powers are connected to a secret mission that took place years earlier.

When Earth’s energy crisis began growing, Eli’s parents were part of an expedition sent into deep space to investigate mysterious beings that lived in total darkness on another planet with the ability to control, siphon, and manipulate energy from matter… even the sun. During the mission, Eli was conceived on the planet, unknowingly making him connected to the same energy force that the Currents possess.

The Currents could sense Eli’s possession of the gift and attacked the human colony. The expedition was forced to abandon the mission and return to Earth, leaving behind a secret that was never meant to be discovered. As Eli grew older, his abilities began to grow stronger within him, and the Currents could sense him once again. Their arrival on Earth is not random. They are looking for him.

But why? What do they want? Could they solve Earth's energy problem? Will they destroy it? Or are they coming to take back something that a human was never meant to possess?

The series would gradually uncover the truth about Eli’s parents, the expedition, the Currents, and why Eli possesses abilities unlike anything humanity has ever seen. Eli will have to learn to control his powers, decide who he can trust, and discover that he may be responsible for the future of both Earth and the planet he came from.

Creator Studio product feedback

I’ve had so much fun learning to use Creator Studio. As someone who loves telling stories, I find this tool really exciting! The ability to build a larger sequence of separate clips, and seeing how they generate together is especially valuable because one seamless long-form video would be difficult to produce.

It’s been interesting trying to figure out how much detail the bot needs. I learned that if you have too many restrictions, the generation will fail. But if you have too little detail, you may not get a desirable output. It’s a lot of trial and error, but the more you use it, the more you understand it.

I’d really like to see stronger character locking. Sometimes I had to regenerate the starting image a few times to get what I needed. When I did this, my character's appearance changed slightly. Stronger character referencing would make it easier to keep the world consistent. It was also difficult to produce sound effects and music tracks the way I would have perfectly liked, but I think that will be solved in the future!

I’m also SUPER excited to see what we can make when the other tools in the studio (trimming, music, etc.) become available. Overall, I feel like Creator Studio is a powerful tool for experimenting with ambitious storytelling.
