AI should not be a privilege reserved for those who can afford cloud infrastructure and supercomputers.
Recently, I have been experimenting with language models running entirely locally — on an ordinary laptop, with no dedicated GPU and no internet connection involved. A fully functional agent capable of tool calling, gathering information, and organising it efficiently, all running on a single machine.
Why does this matter to me? Because it changes who can access this technology.
A small business without the budget for cloud services. A community with unreliable internet access. An organisation handling sensitive data that cannot be sent to third-party servers. For all of them, the idea that "AI only works in the cloud" effectively closes the door.
Running AI locally opens that door again.
This is not about having the largest model available. It is about making technology accessible to the people who genuinely need it. Technology with roots: built on global standards, executed locally, and kept close to the communities it serves.
