I try to challenge myself by finding quick and easier ways to model things in FreeCAD. This time around, I made these earbuds without surfacing—which is typically considered the gold standard for modeling organic shapes that curve a lot.
Instead, I leaned heavily into solid modeling workarounds, using clever combinations of booleans, fillets, and lofts to achieve that smooth, sleek aesthetic. It's fascinating to me how most free tools are slept on. With software like FreeCAD, it’s not about having the most expensive plugins; it's all about having the right mindset to find creative workarounds for software limitations and default techniques that get the work done.
Parametric modeling in a free environment forces you to think about the constraints of your design, often resulting in cleaner, more reliable geometry.
If you have a product idea or a mechanical part that needs to be designed with precision and efficiency, don't hesitate to reach out. You can also check out my design services to see how I can bring your concepts to life.
