I try to challenge myself by finding quick and easier ways to model things in FreeCAD. This time around, I made these earbuds without surfacing—which is typically considered the gold standard for modeling organic shapes that curve a lot.
Instead, I leaned heavily into solid modeling workarounds, using clever combinations of booleans, fillets, and lofts to achieve that smooth, sleek aesthetic. It's fascinating to me how most free tools are slept on. With software like FreeCAD, it’s not about having the most expensive plugins; it's all about having the right mindset to find creative workarounds for software limitations and default techniques that get the work done.
Parametric modeling in a free environment forces you to think about the constraints of your design, often resulting in cleaner, more reliable geometry.

Adjustable Ergonomic Memory Foam Side Sleeper Pillow
This project focuses on the design and development of an adjustable ergonomic memory foam pillow created specifically to improve comfort and support for side sleepers. The pillow features a carefully contoured profile designed to help maintain a more natural head and neck position, while its layered construction allows different foam densities and comfort levels to work together.
My role involved taking the product from the initial design concept through the technical development stages. I developed the product geometry in 3D CAD, refined the ergonomic form, and considered the layered foam construction, removable cover, material specifications, dimensions, and overall manufacturability. I also created detailed manufacturing drawings and product specifications to communicate the design clearly for production.
The project was completed with photorealistic product visualization to demonstrate how the final product would look in a real-world environment and how the ergonomic shape performs during use. The overall goal was to create a product that balances comfort, functionality, aesthetics, and practical manufacturing requirements.
