In honor of another Super Bowl wrapping up, I took a look back at a project I was lucky enough be a part of: Jas Singh's The GOAT Mindset.
It's a tremendous guide for young athletes that teaches the discipline and mental fortitude needed to become a GOAT.
Much of the wisdom in the book is based on Aristotle's maxim "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit."
If you or a young athlete in your life are looking to up your game, give it a read. I promise it's worth it. As with most books worth your time, the wisdom applies to just about anything in life.
I built a TikTok machine before I ever opened TikTok
Confession: I've never posted a TikTok, and I've barely watched one (I'm a Youtube Shorts addict though 😂).
So naturally, I built a machine that makes them.
It's for thegoatdebate.io, my Messi vs Ronaldo GOAT debate site. The star is Papa Goat, a grumpy, deeply unimpressed goat who has heard your GOAT take before and didn't like it then either. 🐐
How it works: you give it some football footage. It picks a take from a bank of about 150 sourced facts, and a local AI model writes Papa Goat's script. ElevenLabs gives him a voice, and a talking goat lands on top of the video. Out comes a vertical video that a human (me) watches before anything gets posted.
Growth is not linear.
The idea of growth has been on my mind a lot lately. We tend to think that it’s always an uphill climb, one accomplishment after another but in reality it’s not always the case. Something derails you, throws you off balance or maybe you realise what you were aiming for wasn’t really the goal.
Sometimes life requires us to take a couple steps back before taking a leap forward.
This resonates. In creative work the flat stretches are usually where the real change is happening, taste is being rebuilt or the goal is being repositioned, and the visible output just has not caught up yet. The steps back that feel like stalling are often the ones that make the next leap possible.
2 years ago, I started HoopZone as a simple portfolio project, a basketball training app I thought I'd build, ship, and move on from.
Then I fell in love with it.
What started as an idea turned into a full ecosystem for basketball players: shooting mechanics analysis powered by MediaPipe and AI, a live shot tracker, training drills, a coaching chatbot, and a calendar to keep it all structured.
Along the way I had to learn things I never planned to: computer vision, on-device ML, backend security, product design, motion graphics, marketing. Every problem the app threw at me made me better.
I'm proud of what I built, but more proud of who I became building it.
