I recently joined the Contra community, eager to collaborate and show what I can do. Even though my profile is brand new, I have a solid background and strong expertise in video editing. Naturally, I was excited to jump into the Invideo challenge and prove my skills.
The result? An invisible barrier. Invideo hasn’t given me the credits needed to actually start working on the project.
This brings up a serious question: Why launch an "open" challenge if you only care about big creators with thousands of followers?
By freezing out starter profiles, brands are missing out on the raw talent of smaller creators who have the technical skills to deliver top-tier work. If you host a community challenge, you need to hold up your end of the deal and give everyone the tools to compete.
Talent isn't measured by a follower count. 🪵✨

I wanted to test whether Invideo Editor’s AI timeline agent could replace hours of manual node compositing in After Effects to create a cinema-grade VFX shot from raw mobile footage.
How I built it:
The Footage: Raw 4K 60fps night plate of NYC with neon signs, streetlamps, and a wet puddle reflection.
Agent Direction: Using a prism refraction photo as a reference, I directed the agent in Ultra Mode to author a single custom shader that extracts luminance highlights, stretches them into 55° upward trails, and applies a spectral RGB dispersion gradient across the edges. It also layered a Screen composite and generated a procedural cyberpunk HUD tracking overlay.
Human Refinements: I manually used the exposed Inspector sliders to fine-tune the Highlight Threshold to 0.68 (isolating the Radio City marquee, streetlamps, and puddle reflection while eliminating building clutter) and dialed the Trail Length to 140 with an exponential falloff taper.

We just made this for a client in a day. Shooting it would've meant weeks of planning and about 10x the budget.
The concept is the asset. It's a structure built to repeat: new characters, a new situation, and the same payoff every time.
I come from production and I still think real shoots are some of the most valuable work we do.
A founder telling their story, a documentary, an event that happened in a real place on a real day. As AI content fills the feed, that stuff is going to stand out more.
Everything else is changing fast. When producing a concept gets this cheap and fast, the hard part (and valuable part) is deciding what to make and why.
Deciding what's worth making matters more now that generating is cheap. Good take.
