Ink Reborn: The 2145 Kinetic Scroll Installation
The Inspiration (Original Art)
My creative process was sparked by "Mountain Stream on a Summer Day" from The Met's public domain archive. Traditional Chinese ink landscapes were never just pictures; they were philosophical meditations on nature, space, and the flow of Qi (life energy). The original artist used masterful brushwork and negative space to draw the viewer's mind into the mountains. I wanted to take that mental journey and make it physical.
The Concept: Reimagine (Scale, Material, and Purpose)
What if an ancient scroll wasn't just a 2D surface, but an immersive, inhabitable space? Set in a hypothetical museum of the year 2145, this project reimagines the piece as a zero-gravity interactive installation.
Material: The static ink is reimagined as a "smart ferro-fluid mist" — floating particles of black liquid carbon.
Scale: The 2D frame expands into a 360-degree, kilometer-scale volumetric landscape.
Purpose: Passive observation is replaced by kinetic co-creation. The viewer's presence, touch, and even their inner state act as the "brush," unrolling the scroll in three dimensions.
Storytelling & Process (Built in FLORA)
I used the FLORA canvas as a digital architect's blueprint to direct this narrative. Instead of just generating images, I mapped out the spatial UI and the physics of the room.
The Anchor: I started with the original Met piece hanging in an ultra-black, minimalist void (Vantablack gallery), representing the archive.
The Attunement: Through a non-invasive neural interface, the space first responds to the viewer's emotional state — an agitated mind keeps the ink as restless, chaotic smoke, while a calm, meditative state lets it crystallize into precise calligraphic form.
The Trigger: As the viewer approaches and touches the scroll, the 2D ink breaks its bounds, propelled by fluid dynamics.
The Immersion: The FLORA generations focused on particle physics and volumetric lighting to show the mountains, pines, and cranes materializing in mid-air around the viewer, the ink resolving into a fully realized, living landscape.
The Collapse: Finally, the landscape gently dissolves and settles back into its frame, leaving a faint, fading trace of ink on the viewer's hands and a soft residual glow within the scroll itself — a quiet reminder that the interaction was real.
Museum-able
This concept represents the future of art curation. It shows how museums like The Met could one day use programmable matter and spatial computing to allow audiences to literally step inside history, breathing new life into 5,000 years of art.

The Impossible Prediction 🌌
For the Flora Museum Challenge, I reimagined the Met Museum’s Automaton Clock in the Form of Urania, Muse of Astronomy by Paullus Schiller (ca. 1620–30) as the center of a fictional scientific mystery.
The story begins in a 17th-century workshop, where Schiller is building Urania, a mechanical representation of the heavens. Once completed, the automaton comes alive: its gears turn, the celestial sphere rotates, and Urania moves as she tracks the heavens.
But something unexpected happens. One of the gears begins moving differently from the others. Schiller initially believes it is simply a mechanical flaw, but the unusual movement continues with strange precision.
The story then jumps forward 400 years. Modern researchers rediscover Urania and analyze the mysterious gear using contemporary astronomical data. What first appears to be an error turns out to correspond to a precise location in the night sky — something that could not have been known in Schiller’s time.
The researchers are left with an impossible question: How could a 17th-century machine contain an astronomical prediction about something discovered centuries later?
Using Flora, I developed this idea into a five-part visual narrative — The Creation, The Awakening, The Anomaly, 400 Years Later, and The Revelation — and turned it into a short cinematic demo.
The project explores how a real historical object can inspire an entirely new fictional world while preserving the character, craftsmanship, and astronomical identity of the original artifact.
Turning Urania into the center of a scientific mystery is such a strong narrative leap. The automaton clock already feels uncanny, and this concept pushes that quality beautifully.
The Last Crossing.
What if humanity had its own “Washington Crossing the Delaware”?
Inspired by Emanuel Leutze's 1851 masterpiece, I reimagined the crossing as humanity's final journey from a dying civilization into an unknown future.
Rather than simply turning the original into a futuristic scene, I studied its visual language the central figure, collective movement, vessel, dramatic composition, atmosphere, and sense of uncertainty and rebuilt those ideas around a completely new story.
I explored multiple creative directions in FLORA before selecting and refining the final concept. The project was developed through FLORA's canvas using the FLORA MCP connected with ChatGPT to structure the creative exploration, develop concepts, iterate on directions, and organize the visual process.
The result is a historical painting imagined from the future: a group of survivors making one final crossing toward a destination they cannot see.

Reframing the crossing as humanity's final departure gives the original composition a huge emotional scale. The historical parallel is instantly readable and very strong.
