Make, Zapier or n8n — I get asked this constantly. Short version:
Zapier — when the logic is linear and the client will maintain it themselves. Most expensive per operation, easiest to hand over. If your team isn't technical, this is usually the right call even when it costs more.
Make — when the logic branches. Multiple conditions, routers, iterators, error handling paths. This is where most real business processes actually live, and it's what I reach for by default.
n8n — when you need self-hosting, custom code inside the flow, or your volume makes per-operation pricing painful. More setup, more control, and someone needs to own the infrastructure.
The mistake I see most: picking the tool first, then bending the process to fit it. Map the process, count the branches, then choose.
