I’ve always struggled with procrastination, and it became one of the biggest obstacles to staying consistent. While researching ways to overcome it, I kept coming across one simple idea: break large tasks into smaller, manageable steps. But I wondered—what if completing those steps felt less like checking items off a to-do list and more like progressing through a game?
That idea led me to build Focusquest, a gamified productivity prototype created with @Emergent
Focusquest turns any task into a four-level challenge:
Enter a task you’ve been putting off.
Choose a challenge.
Let the app break the task into four progressive levels.
Complete each level and solve the challenge to move forward.
The goal is to create a rewarding feedback loop: every small action gives you a sense of progress, and that progress becomes the incentive to keep going. Instead of relying only on motivation or willpower, Focusquest makes the task feel like something you want to complete.
It’s currently a prototype, but the concept explores an interesting question:
Can turning responsibility into a challenge—and progress into a reward—make it easier to overcome procrastination?
Try Focusquest here: https://procrastask.emergent.host/ I’d love to hear your thoughts:
Would a challenge-based approach make you more likely to start a task?
What kind of rewards would motivate you to finish one?
How could this concept be improved?
