When I recommend each:
Shopify — Physical products, inventory, payments out of the box. Not for content sites with 3 products in the footer.
Webflow — Full design control, clean code, animations. Not for clients who need to edit everything without breaking things.
Framer — Fast marketing sites and portfolios. Not for complex e-commerce.
WordPress — Enterprise catalogs, memberships, multi-author content. Not for a 5-page portfolio.
The real skill isn't building in all four. It's knowing which one to pick before a single pixel gets designed.

I always start with Shopify Horizon as the base, bolt on Tailwind CSS, and build from there.
I've built loads of custom theme's this way, its so much easier than buying a premium theme and trying to modify it. It also eliminates bloat and pointless blocks and functionality.
One day I'll get around to creating my own base theme but there's never time to even get started on that!
