Shopify has redesigned the admin.
A new frame, new navigation and a new visual language are rolling out to merchants now.
✅ Search, notifications and the store picker have moved from the top bar into the side navigation
✅ The side navigation collapses to give the page more room
✅ Colour, type and icons have been updated across every surface
✅ Pages carry fewer nested containers and lead with what matters most
✅ Sidekick sits at the bottom of every page. Quick questions stay in a floating chat. Longer tasks expand into the side panel.
Shopify reports that daily Sidekick sessions grew 4.8 times year over year from 2025 to 2026.
The new layout gives it a permanent place on every page.
For app developers:
Embedded apps built with Polaris web components get the new styling by loading Polaris 2.0. No code changes needed.
Apps on Polaris 1, and any UI still rendered with Polaris React, keep the current appearance.
The Sidekick bar floats over the bottom of your app's viewport. Position sticky footers and floating buttons with --shopify-safe-area-inset-bottom.
Both appearances run side by side during the rollout, so test in each. Development stores already have the new admin enabled.
Polaris 2.0 for App Home is still a release candidate.
Apps built on Shopify's own components inherit the redesign.
The rest will look out of place when their merchants switch over.
