“Once Upon a Deadline” is my entry for
@Runway Another Big Ad Contest
#RunwayBigAdContest for products that don't exist! Cinderella made it to the ball, but little known lore...
Her Fairy Godmother barely made the deadline!
No dress. No carriage. No budget. One spectacular hangover. And a mushroom blend that tastes like goblin’s bathwater.
I wanted to turn the Fairy Godmother from a convenient plot device into the invisible creative force beneath the myth: the exhausted woman responsible for manufacturing the magic before midnight.
The product insight became the engine of the story—not a line pasted onto the ending:
It tastes horrible. It brings clarity.
Some outcomes are worth the tradeoff.
Visually, the film moves from claustrophobic candlelit panic into a psychedelic fungal mindscape, before exploding into the Cinderella iconography we already know.
29 seconds. Built shot by shot inside Runway—directing performance, character continuity, camera movement, dialogue and transformation across generations.
Because magic creates the spectacle.
But every legend has an Understory.
