Would you lower your pricing for a long-term client?
I probably would.
Not because I don't value my work, but because I value the relationship.
If a client looks like someone I genuinely enjoy working with, communicates well, respects my time, and has the potential for ongoing work, I'm sometimes happy to be a little flexible on the first project.
A long-term relationship is often worth more than maximizing the profit on a single invoice.
Of course, I wouldn't cut my pricing in half or work at a loss. It still has to make sense. But if being flexible today leads to years of great collaboration, I think that's a worthwhile trade.
Curious what others think.
Would you keep your pricing firm, or would you be flexible for the right long-term client?

Totally agree. Working with a great hassle free client saves so much time and stress. Have you ever had a client expect that lower rate for all future projects too?

Yes @Vara Creative , I have, and honestly it was a painful lesson. That's why these days I don't lower my pricing too much. Instead, I usually make it clear that the discounted rate is just for the first 2–3 projects. After that, we move to the standard rate. It's worked out much better...

Good point. I definetely would if the client and the project is someone i am going to like and especially if there is going to be releationship between me and client continously. That would give me the chance to improve spesifically for the client and i would work over my own work i done before.

I completely agree. For me, it’s less about lowering the price and more about investing in a relationship. If we enjoy working together and there’s long-term potential, I’d rather build trust first. In the long run, that usually creates much more value for both sides. 😊

This tracks with how I think about it too, pricing flexibility for the right long-term fit isn't undervaluing yourself, it's just recognizing repeat work has lower overhead than constantly onboarding new clients. Do you have a clear line for how much you'd flex, or is it more case by case?

It's mostly case by case for me. I don't have a strict rule, it's more about the client, the project, and whether I see real long-term potential. If the relationship feels right, I'm usually happy to be a bit flexible.

I agree with you on that. A long term relationship with a pleasant and respectful client is very much worth sacrificing a portion of a first time payment.

Exactly! A small bit of flexibility on the first project can be worth it when the client is respectful, easy to work with, and there’s real potential for a long-term relationship. The right clients bring much more value over time. 😊
