In the Era of GenAI, How Do We Maintain an Irreplaceable Artistic Voice?
Spring always brings a renewed belief in rebirth 🌸
While recently archiving the past Spring Visual Identity I crafted for Eslite Bookstore, that creative state came rushing back. In this visual, I used airy negative space and a soft color palette to capture the quiet awakening of winter fading into spring—allowing the botanicals, light, and typography to echo one another.
This is a design language I deeply believe in: finding the perfect dynamic balance between negative space and meticulous detail. It allows the viewer to first experience the stillness of the space, before gradually discovering the nuances within the frame—the extension of a leaf, the subtle shift of light. A well-crafted space or visual is, in itself, an emotional creation.
From the Warmth of Colored Pencils to the Depth of AI
Looking back at my 2018 archives, sketching botanicals and snow mountains stroke by stroke, my fingertips can still recall the slight physical resistance of the pencil lead against the paper.
In an era saturated with hyper-efficient digital workflows and visual fatigue, I am incredibly grateful for that deliberate choice to return to analog fundamentals. The unique texture of a colored pencil and the tangible depth of physical layering possess a raw reality that digital tools cannot truly replicate. Those slow hours trained my pursuit of extreme detail, deeply shaping how I approach Brand Packaging and Visual Translation today.
No matter how technology iterates—even as we fluently command cutting-edge generative AI tools—the human element remains irreplaceable: that slight touch of Wabi-Sabi and the natural, organic texture of our unique creative identity.
Because I’ve experienced the rigor of analog sketching and the tactile observation of the physical world, when I create with AI today, I know exactly where the human touch belongs—and how to make the story resonate.
The further we journey, the more we need to occasionally look back at the purity of holding that first paintbrush.
