Every show has its own cadence, and research truly shines when it supports that rhythm.
This is a slice of the prep doc I built for an episode of EarWax on Parliament’s Mothership Connection (great record). When I put these together, I’m thinking about how the information builds the story. What’s the natural turn? Where does the energy shift? What detail belongs early versus late?
My favorite part is sitting down to record already knowing the general flow, because that opens up opportunities to lean into a surprise moment that the story keeps cooking along.
It’s a mix of structure, intuition, and leaving room for surprise - the same way a good conversation works.
