⚠️ SCAM ALERT – PLEASE SHARE AND REPOST ⚠️
Hey everyone, please share and repost this to keep our community safe! I want to quickly flag a highly sophisticated scam currently targeting freelancers here on Contra.
I was recently approached by a profile representing "DeCruiz Labs" (claiming to look for talent for a Web3/software project). After a bit of digging, it turns out this is a known malicious campaign.
How it works: They offer a legitimate-looking freelance gig, but during the vetting process, they will try to send you a link to a GitHub repository or a file archive containing their "project code" or "assignment" for you to review.
DO NOT download or run this code locally. It contains malware designed to instantly drain crypto wallets, steal browser cookies, and compromise your credentials.
Please hit the repost button so this reaches as many freelancers as possible before anyone loses their data or funds.

Take care. Something similar happened to me — it's really sad to see this happen, and not only here; many platforms have similar issues. Stay safe!

No worries, dear! It was a fake client who asked me to book a call through a fake Calendly page (similar to the official Calendly site). It requested a Google sign-in, and at that step they were able to track details. I was able to restore my Gmail, and thankfully it was not...

Thanks for sharing this and helping keep the community safe. Can you clarify when and where the link was sent? Was it through Contra chat?
Also wondering if we should add a general reminder encouraging people to be extra careful with external links, files shared during the hiring process.

Yes, the initial message was sent directly through the Contra chat. The profile reached out under the name "Anastasiia Libus" representing "DeCruiz Labs", offering a job opportunity with a link to view the position.
Usually, these types of scams proceed by moving the conversation...
