How we saved a client $3K by optimizing their AWS infrastructure
Most teams overspend on cloud without realizing it. Idle instances, oversized resources, and forgotten storage add up fast.
We recently worked with a client whose AWS bill had been climbing steadily. After a thorough audit of their infrastructure, here's what we did:
1. Right-sized EC2 instances Their workloads were running on instances way bigger than needed. We analyzed usage patterns and downsized where it made sense, without touching performance.
2. Cleaned up unused resources Orphaned EBS volumes, old snapshots, unused Elastic IPs. All quietly burning money. We identified and removed everything that wasn't serving a purpose.
3. Leveraged Reserved Instances & Savings Plans For predictable workloads, we moved from on-demand pricing to reserved capacity. This alone made a significant dent.
4. Set up cost monitoring & alerts Optimization isn't a one-time thing. We configured AWS Cost Explorer dashboards and billing alerts so the client can catch spend anomalies early.
The result: $3K in monthly savings, cleaner infrastructure, and a client who actually understands their AWS bill now.
