The Memory Astrolabe is inspired by a 17th-century planispheric astrolabe from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Open Access collection. Traditionally used to chart the stars, I reimagined it as an artifact that preserves human memories instead of celestial positions.
Through FLORA, I explored how the astrolabe could evolve while preserving its intricate brass craftsmanship, circular geometry, and symbolic design. My process moved from concept exploration to activation, culminating in a museum-worthy interpretation where forgotten letters, maps, portraits, and fragments of history emerge from the instrument as living memories.
Rather than imagining a futuristic machine, I wanted to create an object that still feels handcrafted, timeless, and worthy of exhibition—a bridge between history, memory, and imagination.
