Craft Archive: the making of a Japanese sword
Fewer than 200 swordsmiths remain in Japan. Only 30 make a living from it. A commissioned sword costs ~$6,500. More than half goes to the polisher and other specialists. I made a 6-step interactive simulation in Figma Make. You control furnace temperature, sort steel by carbon content, fold it 15 times into 32,768 layers, choose a hamon clay pattern, quench (20% chance it cracks), and polish through 7 stones. Tone.js sound on every step. Hammer strikes rising in pitch. Water hiss on the quench. The persona is based on Miyairi Norihiro, mukansa-rank smith in Nagano who forges ceremonial swords for Ise Grand Shrine. https://craft-archive.figma.site/ Figma community link

As someone who recently got to select a beautiful handmade Japanese chef knife for myself, I thought it was a pretty fun journey of learning the process of sword smithing through your design!

You can write your observation to each step. There is a special filed.
I like Japanese swords history and all around them.
