🎭 Day 4: The Day I Wished I'd Stayed Awake in Music Class
Today was supposed to be about visual polish of Digital Kathputli (inspired by traditional Rajasthani string puppetry). Instead, I spent it chasing sound.
The problem nobody warns you about:
Hand tracking isn't a browser-recognized "user gesture."
Which means the moment the curtains open—triggered by detecting your hand—the browser silently blocks any audio that tries to play.
No warning. No error. Just silence.
I tried everything.
Different audio sources. Different playback methods. Different browser APIs.
At one point, I managed to generate sounds that technically worked but felt completely wrong for the atmosphere I was trying to create.
I wanted the feeling of a traditional Kathputli performance beginning. The kind of sound that immediately tells you something special is about to happen.
Stock music libraries weren't getting me there.
So I took a different route.
I generated the opening track myself using Suno AI, experimenting with different variations until one finally felt right.
Then came another round of debugging to get the browser to actually play it.
After hours of testing, reverting, and trying again, the moment finally arrived:
The curtains opened.
The music played.
And for the first time, the stage felt complete.
What I Learned:
One lesson surprised me more than the audio problem itself:
Sometimes the fastest way forward is to go backward.
Several times today I reverted to an earlier version before trying a new approach.
Each rollback saved more time than it cost.
Revert early. Revert often.
Progress
✅ Custom folk-inspired opening soundtrack
✅ Audio toggle integrated into the experience
✅ Sound remains optional and unobtrusive
✅ A healthier respect for browser audio policies
The puppet dances.
The music plays.
The show goes on.
