Feeling a bit bummed out today.
Yesterday I showed a redesign to my boss. I hadn’t been getting much feedback during the process, and I mistook the silence as approval. It turns out he wasn’t actually sure what I was showing him, so he kept saying it looked good.
This is definitely not my first rodeo. But somehow I skipped my own rules. The truth is, I got excited. The design was getting “approved” with no changes, and I let myself believe that meant I was on the right track. A little bit of wishful thinking.
When I presented the full redesign, he didn’t like it. I am bummed because I wanted this one to land.
Here is what I re-learned:
✅ Get explicit approval before moving to the next step: Silence does not mean yes.
✅ Do not take it personally: Taste is subjective. A no does not mean bad work
