What if your motion graphics could react to what's happening around them?
I recreated this proximity-based animation in After Effects, where a moving controller influences the characters around it.
The fun part was taking the basic idea further making the characters move, changing their facial expressions, making the eyes follow the controller, and even adding proximity-based lighting.
It’s a good example of how expressions can turn a simple animation into something much more interactive.
I’ve also recorded the complete tutorial and broken down how I built the effect step by step.
Inspired by the original tutorial by Olly (@oliviero_s) “Automatic Proximity Reactions in After Effects.”

Sneha, this is such a fun use of proximity controls. Love that you pushed it beyond just movement and gave the characters different reactions too. Makes the whole setup feel much more alive.
