Just joined Contra and excited to be here and connect with other builders! 👋
One of the projects I recently worked on was a white-labeled React Native mobile app based on the open-source Rocket.Chat project.
I forked the React Native codebase, customized it for a new product, and handled the configuration required to connect it with a self-hosted Rocket.Chat server. ⚙️
One of the more interesting parts was getting push notifications working correctly with the self-hosted setup, including the required mobile configuration and deployment steps. 🔔
The app is now live on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. 🚀
A nice reminder that taking an existing open-source project and turning it into a production-ready, branded product often involves much more than changing the UI.
