🚀 Reimagining Craigslist: Turning Legacy UX into a Trust-First, AI-Powered Marketplace [Independent Case Study]
Most local marketplaces lose millions in revenue due to one core issue: User Distrust and Fragmented Interface. For this independent product design case study, I took Craigslist's massive legacy framework and completely re-engineered it into a premium, high-converting B2C interface.
🎯 The Business & Design Problem: Traditional local classifieds feel unsafe, cluttered, and slow. Users abandon platforms because they cannot verify buyers or filter out spam efficiently.
💡 The Conversion-Focused Solution: Using strategic product thinking in Figma and Lovable, I structured a clean, modern design system built around three core pillars:
AI-Driven Smart Search: Reducing user friction by replacing text filtering with conversational, contextual search queries.
Trust-First Safety Architecture: Integrated clean, transparent verification metrics into the core user profiles to eliminate fraud vectors.
Scalable Information Hierarchy: Clean typography grids and card patterns optimized for lightning-fast scanning and high engagement rates.

Rebuilding classifieds around trust instead of density is the right call. Putting verification inside the profile system reads more useful than a badge dropped on the old listing grid.

Thank you! That was exactly the goal — making trust part of the experience rather than just adding another badge to the UI. Really appreciate you noticing that!

TRUEFRAME logo
right in your city is a fun line. is that mock in figma?
Arif's avatar
Thank you! Yes, the UI was designed in Figma, and I used Flora to create and refine the mockup presentation. Glad you liked the “Right in your city” line!

A trust-first redesign is exactly the right challenge for this marketplace.

Thank you! For me, good design goes beyond visuals. I focus on real user problems, usability, and creating product experiences that can work across different markets and users.

Replacing filters with conversational search is the bigger bet. Filters are slow but inspectable - curious how the AI search shows what it narrowed, so a seller can tell why they didn't surface.

Thank you for pointing this out — I honestly hadn’t considered this problem before. Your feedback made me realize that conversational search needs to be transparent, especially when AI decides which results to surface. I’ve now updated the concept to show what the AI understood...

Really like the idea of making local information and services easier to find in one place! With so much city-specific information, I imagine keeping it accurate and up to date is a big part of the work. How did you approach collecting the data, and how do you handle updates when something changes?
Arif's avatar
Thanks! For this concept, I approached the data as a structured local marketplace rather than trying to collect everything manually. I focused on organizing listings around location, category, search intent, and trust signals so users could find relevant information more easily.
