That beard detail alone had to take a while, and the armor callbacks make it feel like a proper mashup instead of a generic vector portrait. When you're merging multiple ref photos like this, do you nail the likeness first and layer the gear on after, or block the whole scene in together?

All my portraits are hand drawn digitally :) I start with a sketch to map out portions and locations then finalize linework, and detial locations, next is laying down base colors before spending a majority of time on details... the beard taking the most of that this time.
