🚨 WARNING: FAKE JOB OFFERS / SCAM TARGETING IT, AI, AND WEB3 DEVELOPERS! 🚨
Today, I received a very professional-looking and attractive collaboration offer. A person posing as "Edward Denton" (allegedly a Tech Manager at Pixie Chess) reached out with a highly tailored message. The text specifically highlighted details matching my experience in AI development and Web3 technologies. You can see the full message and the attacker's profile in the file in attachment.
Since the golden rule in tech and crypto is “don't trust, verify,” I immediately went to the project's official Discord server and opened a support ticket. The result? A pure scam. As shown in the file in attachment, the official Pixie Chess team immediately confirmed they are not hiring, do not use that platform, and advised to block and report them.
💡 How this scam works & what to look out for:
Hyper-personalized targeting: Attackers don't just send generic spam anymore. They scan your portfolio, see exactly what tools you use (Python, AI models, smart contracts), and write a pitch designed to make you feel like a perfect match.
Fake recruiter profiles: These profiles are often freshly created, completely blank, or carry a note that the profile is "under construction."
The hidden threat: The ultimate goal of these hiring scams is usually to trick you into downloading a "test game," running an .exe file, or cloning a malicious GitHub repository. Once executed, they deploy infostealers to drain crypto wallets or hijack your local machine.
🛡️ How to protect yourself:
Before you reply, click any link, or download a single file, always reach out to the project or company via their official, verified channels (official website, Discord support, or verified email) to confirm the recruiter's identity.
Stay vigilant and don't let them catch you off guard. Share this to keep the community safe!
