What’s your practical “done” test before you keep polishing? How do you separate meaningful polish from anxious extra work?
I have a hard time stopping on articles, research reports and a huge issue with not having a clear main goal in mind to begin with. If I break it down to it's most simple form, the goal would be "find the thing". Define thing. Define find. How much of it do I find? Have I found all of it? I should figure that out first.
I try to think of it like butter. I know, I know.
You start with cream, and the work is necessary. At first, every bit of effort changes the thing substantially. Then suddenly you've got butter—the goal has been achieved. You can keep churning. You can churn very diligently. You can churn with tremendous commitment and impeccable technique.
...But effort and improvement have stopped being the same thing.
At some point, you're not making the butter anymore. You're just churning the butter.
