Side B: mixtapes made of memories

Side B is a mixtape studio for giving someone a song about the two of you.

Remember making someone a mixtape? Picking every song, writing the label by hand, decorating the case? Side B brings that back, except the song is new and it's about them.

How it works • Write a few memories and inside jokes about someone. • Pick a sound, a voice and a tempo, and design the cassette label. • Claude turns your story into full lyrics, and Lyria records an original song. • You send them a link. They unwrap the mailer, read your note on the J-card, and press play on a 3D cassette. • Then they can record Side B back to you.

The design I wanted it to feel like something you'd hold: tan paper, ink outlines, hard offset shadows, handwritten labels and real 3D cassettes and cases built in three.js. The catalog is a shelf of 24 tapes, each with its own illustrated cover and lyric sheet: pull a case out, open it, and the tape lifts out and plays. It's fully responsive, down to phone size.

The automation • Base44 functions conduct the whole pipeline step by step: write the lyrics, record the song, store it, and deliver the tape. • What people write is treated as material, not instructions. Claude filters it before it reaches the music model: no real artists, songs or brands, no personal details. • 44 songs recorded through the pipeline so far.

A note on the demo The full pipeline is built and tested on Base44, and it recorded all 44 songs you'll hear. Each new recording uses Base44 integration credits, and I've used mine for now, so the live studio plays those recorded songs in a sample session instead of making a new one. Everything else, from the form to the unwrapping and the Side B reply, works as it would for real.
