FAQs
How will I send you my PDF?
When you book my service, please send your PDF as an attachment through Contra's system.
Will you accept texts that have been proofread and edited by the author or author's friends?
No. This last-pass proofreading service is designed for manuscripts that have been edited and proofread by trained professionals. It focuses on catching the small errors that sneak past even the best teams.
My manuscript is longer than 50,000 words. What should I do?
Contact me to ask for a custom price.
Can you check that final changes have been implemented?
If the penultimate draft clearly shows where final changes should have been implemented, I'm happy to cross-check it against your publication-ready PDF. To increase efficiency, please remove notes that aren't related to last minute changes. The names and personal data of your previous editors and proofreaders are protected by privacy rules in the UK (where I work). Please remove their information from the penultimate draft.
What's included
Last-pass proofread of publication-ready indie fiction
This is a last-pass proofreading service for fiction that has already been professionally edited and proofread. My service is designed to catch small errors such as typos, wobbly margins, missing words, and incomplete speech marks. I work on PDFs that have been approved by the author and are ready to publish. You'll receive the feedback as comments on the PDF.
Positive encouragement comment
When I return your story, I will tell you how I found it as a reader. I'll provide three concrete examples of the story's strengths. I will not suggest further changes to the storytelling. This feedback will be sincere, and I hope it will encourage you as you begin work on your next book.
Check for broken and mismatched punctuation
Punctuation is a creative style choice in fiction. I won’t attempt to correct your commas, colons, semi-colons, or dashes unless I see something that obscures your intended meaning. (If you’re using Oxford commas, I’ll check that they’re all present.) I will focus my attention on format errors such as incomplete speech marks, double spaces before periods, mismatched parenthetical dashes, and missing question marks.
