We discuss the type of migration you're making, and your goals, so I can understand what is required of the migration project, and which areas of your SEO you can or can't afford to lose. On top of this, no two migrations are made the same, and their are actually a few types, including: Redesign Migration, Server Migration, URL Migration, Platform (CMS) Migration, A Brand New Site, Domain Migration or HTTPS Migration.
Spot The Difference & Risk Mitigation.
This is an audit of both the old and the new websites - like a game of spot the difference. Everything from keyword density, indexed pages/URLs, speed, sitemaps and everything in between! The purpose is to look for the potential risks involved with your plan to redesign your site and advise and the most cost-effecting, low risk strategies based on your goals.
Quick Wins & Low Hanging Fruit.
After understanding your plan, I'll assess your competitors, and look for quick wins. They say if it's not broken, then don't fix it, right? But there's always space for a bit of polish! Why you ask? You're already moving the SEO, and migrations are never without risk of dropping your rank positions temporarily. This stage is a chance to make the most of your move, and enhance your SEO in the process.
The Final Plan.
The will be a spreadsheet of the planned changes for you to approve before we go ahead. This includes any changes to urls, metadata, headings, navigation, target keywords, alt text and of course, a 301 redirect plan.
Implementation & Monitoring.
Once we're prepared for moving day, we'll start to execute our plan efficiently, without leaving users in the dark. We can either make the changes on a local/staging domain, or leave a 'work in progress' sign on your homepage. Once we're settled, it's time to track the performance of the new site, check and rectify any unexpected drop-offs, and overall ensure everything is going to plan.
