I've studied human factors engineering as applied to design having been initially introduced to the subject by my dad who was a flying instructor for an aviation school and retired airport inspector. Flight safety, human perception, learning and communication are factors that can have life and death implications. And even in a lower stakes design context the principles apply. Designers who only care about making things pretty, though also valuable will likely miss the practical considerations I will bring in addition to that.
