FAQs
What is a design team of one?
A "Design Team of One" refers to a scenario where an individual is solely responsible for all design-related tasks within a project or organization. This person handles the entire spectrum of the design process, from conceptualization to execution. Responsibilities often include research, user experience (UX) design, user interface (UI) design, graphic design, and sometimes even front-end development. The term highlights the challenge of managing a diverse range of design functions single-handedly where resources for a full design team are limited. This role requires a broad skill set, adaptability, and the ability to work independently.
What is the double diamond?
The Double Diamond is a design process framework used in design and innovation, consisting of four key phases. It emphasizes the importance of both divergent and convergent thinking in each phase, ensuring a thorough understanding of the problem before developing solutions. 1. Discover: Initial gathering of broad insights and information to understand the problem or user needs. 2. Define: Narrowing down the information to define the actual problem to be solved. 3. Develop: Exploring various solutions through ideation and prototyping. 4. Deliver: Finalizing and implementing the most viable solution.
What is human-centered design?
Human-Centered Design (HCD) is a creative approach to problem-solving that starts with understanding the needs and experiences of people. It focuses on designing products, services, or solutions that are tailored to meet the specific needs, preferences, and contexts of end-users. This approach involves direct engagement with users throughout the design process to ensure that the final outcome is both usable and meaningful to them. HCD emphasizes empathy, user feedback, and iterative testing to create solutions that are not only functional but also user-friendly and relevant.
What's included
Interactive prototype
A click-through prototype of proposed workflow and design changes. Excellent for user testing and as reference for developers, alongside the design spec. The default format is Figma, but it can be altered to suit your needs.
Design spec
This specification document captures the outcomes of the design process, a single-source-of-truth which is shared with developers, QA, documentation and training teams. The default format is PDF, but it can be altered to suit your needs. The spec will cover use-cases, workflows, interactions and states, UI copy (e.g. system messages) and UI elements such as layouts, components and styles.
UI kit and style guide
Documenting the visual aspects of the product UI including layouts, colour palette and other elements such as forms and buttons. Together with the design spec this will provide developers with everything they need to build the UI. The default format is Figma, but it can be altered to suit your needs.
