I prefer frontend development but I have good experience with backend development also. Below is my workflow

Phase I : Discovery

Before I work on the things or tasks I have on my plate, I always conduct a research and then analyze how to complete the tasks at hand in an optimal and efficient way.

I tend to throw a lot of questions for clarification at this phase and share ideas that I have in mind that I think can help the client / team.

Phase II : Development

After gathering ideas and analyzing the tasks at hand, I start the development but will still ask questions from time-to-time especially if it's a new type of project or tech stack.

In this phase, I tend to create different versions of code that I think is optimized and efficient and then share it with the team or client.

I always end my day with progress updates as much as possible.
