Professional Audio Electronics Repair, Modding & Customisationmàlu studio
I provide professional repair, troubleshooting, maintenance, modification, and customisation services for audio electronics used by musicians, producers, studios, and audio enthusiasts.
My work combines electronics knowledge with practical experience in sound engineering. I do not evaluate equipment only as a circuit: I also consider how it behaves musically, how it interacts with the rest of the signal chain, and what the user actually needs from it.
The goal is not simply to make a device turn on again. It is to restore reliable operation, preserve its original character when appropriate, and improve performance only when a modification provides a real technical or musical benefit.
Equipment I can work on
Depending on the model, condition, documentation, and availability of components, I may work on:
Preamplifiers
Compressors and limiters
Equalisers
Effects units and pedals
Mixers and signal-routing equipment
Synthesizers and electronic instruments
MIDI equipment
Samplers and sound modules
Studio processors
Power supplies
Analog and mixed-signal audio devices
Custom-built or modified equipment
Utility devices for studio and live use
Every project is evaluated individually before acceptance.
Repair and troubleshooting
Repair services may include:
Fault diagnosis
Signal tracing
Noise, hum, crackling, and interference reduction
Loss of signal or intermittent operation
Distortion and unwanted saturation problems
Power supply faults
Grounding issues
Connector, switch, and potentiometer replacement
Capacitor replacement and recapping
Damaged component replacement
Calibration and adjustment
Preventive maintenance
Cleaning and restoration of controls and contacts
Functional and listening tests
When appropriate, I also evaluate frequency response, output level, dynamic behaviour, noise performance, and other relevant technical parameters.
Modifications and upgrades
I offer carefully evaluated modifications designed around the actual limitations of the device and the client’s intended use.
Possible modifications may include:
Noise reduction
Power supply improvements
Grounding optimisation
Signal-path refinement
Component upgrades
Op-amp replacement
Capacitor and resistor value optimisation
Tube replacement and circuit adaptation
Headroom improvement
Distortion-character modification
Compression-response adjustment
Input and output level adaptation
Balanced or unbalanced connection modifications
Additional controls or routing options
Custom bypass solutions
Reliability improvements
I do not replace components simply because they are more expensive or considered “audiophile”. Every modification must have a clear purpose and must be compatible with the original circuit.
A technically unnecessary modification can make a device less reliable, less musical, or simply different rather than better. If I believe the requested modification would not provide a meaningful benefit, I will explain why before proceeding.
Custom audio electronics
I can also design and build custom audio devices according to the client’s needs.
Projects may include:
Custom effects units
Preamplifiers and signal-conditioning circuits
Studio utility devices
Audio routing and switching systems
Custom interfaces
Passive or active summing devices
MIDI-controlled audio functions
Instrument electronics
Experimental sound devices
Analog synthesizer modules
Bespoke circuits for specific studio workflows
Custom projects are developed according to the required function, signal levels, available space, power requirements, budget, and intended operating environment.
My working approach
Each project begins with a preliminary evaluation.
Before accepting the job, I may request:
Brand and exact model
Serial number when relevant
Clear description of the fault or desired modification
Photos of the exterior and interior
Videos or audio recordings of the problem
Information about previous repairs or modifications
Schematics or service documentation when available
Details about the equipment connected before and after the device
Desired final result
Client location and shipping information
After the initial evaluation, I will explain:
Whether the repair or modification appears feasible
Which tests are required
Which parts may need replacement
Any technical or structural limitations
The estimated labour and component costs
Any risks related to previous damage or undocumented modifications
Honest technical evaluation
Audio electronics repair is not always predictable.
Some faults are caused by obsolete components, unavailable integrated circuits, damaged circuit boards, incomplete documentation, corrosion, previous incorrect repairs, or multiple interacting problems.
For this reason, I do not promise that every device can be repaired or that every modification is possible.
If a project is not technically reasonable, economically worthwhile, or safe to complete, I will say so clearly. I will not continue replacing parts at random or charge for unnecessary work merely to create the appearance of progress.
Testing and final delivery
After the intervention, the equipment is tested according to the type of device and the work performed.
Testing may include:
Power supply verification
Signal-path testing
Input and output level checks
Frequency-response evaluation
Noise and hum assessment
Dynamic and compression behaviour
Control and switching operation
Extended operational testing
Critical listening tests
Comparison with the original specification when available
The client will receive a clear description of the work performed, replaced components, modifications, remaining limitations, and recommended future maintenance.
Important information
Physical repair services are available only after preliminary evaluation.
Shipping, insurance, replacement components, taxes, and customs costs are not included unless specifically stated.
Modifications may alter the original specifications, resale value, manufacturer warranty, or future serviceability of the equipment. Any relevant consequence will be discussed before the work begins.
Devices connected directly to mains voltage require particular attention to electrical safety. I will not perform modifications that compromise protective grounding, insulation, fusing, thermal stability, or other essential safety functions.
Pricing
Repair and modification costs depend on:
Equipment complexity
Diagnostic time
Circuit accessibility
Availability of documentation
Required components
Previous damage or modifications
Testing requirements
Requested final result
Pricing: Contact for a preliminary evaluation and custom quote.
