Developmental Editing for Manuscripts & EssaysNatasha Mulenga
I help you see what your draft wants to become.
You've written something. It's not finished—but something in it is alive. You just need help seeing what it wants to be.
That's where developmental editing comes in. I don't just fix sentences. I look at the big picture: structure, flow, argument, voice, character, pacing. I help you see the shape your project is reaching for.
I work with:
• Memoirs and personal essays
• Self-help and personal development manuscripts
• Book proposals
• Creative non-fiction
• Any writing that needs to find its shape
What I offer:
Honest, thoughtful feedback on what's working and what isn't
Big-picture thinking about structure and purpose
Attention to voice—does it sound like you?
Questions that help you see your own work more clearly
My approach:
I read as a fellow writer, not just an editor. I'm not here to impose my vision on your work. I'm here to help you see yours more clearly—and then help you get there.
Pricing & Timeframe:
Projects are priced based on length, complexity, and timeline. I offer three tiers depending on your needs:
• The Blueprint (4 days) – For shorter pieces (essays, articles) up to 2,000 words. Includes editorial letter and annotated manuscript. Starting at $75.
• The Foundation (7 days) – For manuscripts up to 10,000 words. Comprehensive review with multi-page editorial letter and annotated comments. Starting at $200.
• The Architect (14 days) – For projects up to 25,000 words. Includes strategy call, unlimited follow-up, second pass, and style guide. Starting at $400.
Message me with your project details, and I'll send a custom proposal tailored to your needs.

FAQs
Copy editing fixes sentences—grammar, punctuation, clarity. Developmental editing looks at the big picture: Does your structure work? Does your argument hold? Is your voice consistent? I do both, but my focus is on the deeper, structural work.
It's never too early. In fact, the messier the draft, the more helpful developmental editing can be. I'll help you see what you're reaching for and guide you toward it.
No. I suggest, question, and guide—but the words stay yours. My job is to help you see your own work more clearly, not to make it mine.
I work in Google Docs or LibreOffice (which can produce Word documents, don't worry), using comments and tracked changes. You'll receive an annotated document plus a separate editorial letter.
