Expectations:
Homework sucks - so I make these sessions as fool-proof as possible; all that's required of you is to turn up, share your grand schemes, and have an honest conversation about the project you're building.

I'll then distil this information into a granular document that you'll use as the basis for everything, from job descriptions and agency hires to pitch decks and landing pages.
The result?
- No more misalignments on priorities
- The power to articulate your goals to marketing, product, and engineering
- A powerful weapon against Blank Page Syndrome
A lot goes into a successful project—so many angles, decisions, what-ifs, and what-could-be—but the hardest part isn't knowing how to navigate those murky waters; we're entrepreneurs.
The challenge lies in succinctly getting across those thoughts to others.
Chances are that at some stage early on, your brain will look a little like this Miro board: https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_lz3IfJU=/ Meticulously planned, well-spirited, slightly chaotic, and with all the information needed to break ground. The challenge lies in then communicating this to those around you.
You need to be able to align everyone around you on your mission - and communicate that well, too. Enter the Discovery Specification.
It's a universal set of truths about your mission from the perspectives of key players—sales, product, engineering, and marketing. It's what you do, why you do it, the technical ins-and-outs, and how you communicate that to the world.
The Discovery Specification is a one-and-done document that aims to answer everything about your project from the perspective of the many hats you'll be sharing and wearing as a startup team.
With a well-defined discovery specification, you'll describe to everyone - in granular detail - your vision from cover to cover so there's no room for misaligned hires, project confusion and expensive mistakes early on.
Expect to answer:
- What are you building?
- Who are you building for?
- What's the story we'll tell to investors?
- What do they want, and how do you give them more
- How will you build it?
- What are the challenges?
- Who should we be hiring for?
- What does it look like?
- How do you describe the value you bring?
- How do you SHOW that value in the best possible way?
- What does 'BEST POSSIBLE WAY' even mean?
- How will you market it?
- Where do we find our audience?
- What pivots should keep in mind?
- Why should they choose you over your competitors?
- Who even are they?
- What are the pushbacks to expect, and how can we get around them?
