• What content management system will my website use?

  We develop all of our sites using WordPress. Over 43% of all sites on the internet are using WordPress, so your site will be in good company.

• Do you use a pre-made theme like Divi or Elementor?

  We have a custom WordPress theme that we have developed that serves as the base for all new site builds. Using a custom theme allows us to implement customizations quickly and ensure that your website is truly unique to you. In addition, we use the default Gutenberg editor inside of WordPress to build out pages using custom blocks, which are developed using the Advanced Custom Fields plugin. Our process ensures that anyone, regardless of technical ability, is able to update their website on their own. If you can fill out a form, you can update your site by yourself!

• What do you need from me to start building my website?

  As a part of building your website, we will need content and images that we can use on the website to be provided. Since you know your business better than anyone else, it’s up to you to provide content that will best promote your business and inform your customers. As a part of the design and development process, we will take your content and images provided and determine the best way to display that content on the website. It’s better to provide too much content than too little. It’s our job to ensure that the content you provide is displayed on the website in an understandable and visually appealing manner. Any images you can provide would also be very helpful and add a personal touch to your website. If you do not have imagery, we can use free stock photography, but your own images really provide a special personal touch. You must own the full copyright rights to any images you provide for use on the website so if the images were taken by someone other than yourself make sure you have full copyright permissions to use the images online.

• Will I own the code for my website?

  In order for us to provide custom websites while also keeping the process affordable, there are certain shared components that may be used across multiple client’s sites, like the base WordPress blocks that we use. As a result, once full and final payment is made, you’ll receive a limited non-exclusive license to use the code for your site, with very few restrictions. You will be allowed to use and modify the code as you see fit, so long as you do not give or sell the code to others or use the code in another project unrelated to your website. In addition, there is an exception in the license so that you can give the code to another developer so that they can modify or update the site code, should you choose to hire an outside developer for this purpose after we build your site. In addition, third party code libraries and plugins, such as WordPress and Advanced Custom Fields, come with their own licenses and restrictions.

• Will I be able to update the website's content myself?

  Absolutely! We build sites to be absolutely easy for you to update all of the content on the site yourself. We use custom blocks developed for WordPress’ Gutenberg editor, which makes it super easy for you to add new content to your pages. We like to say, if you can fill out a form, you can update your website yourself, because it’s really that easy! We’ll also provide free training and support for you as we build out your site so you’re 100% confident that you can update your site yourself!

• Are there any ongoing costs for the website after development is complete?

  Yes. You will need to host your website on the internet so it is available for people to view. We recommend that you host your site with us, which costs $75 a month. In addition to hosting, this fee also includes access to Matomo Analytics as well as monthly site maintenance and updates, where we update your site and ensure that your site is secure. Hosting with us also gives you access to us for ongoing support, so you can ask questions about updating your site or adding new content. You will also need to purchase a domain name for your site so people can find it online. A domain name is something like “mybusiness.com”. You can purchase these from many online companies for between $10 and $20 a year. Not sure how to purchase a domain? We’ll walk you through all the setup for this!

• Do I have to host my website with you?

  No. As long as there is not a balance due on your account, you will have the right to the code for your website and can host it on any compatible hosting provider. Please note that our WordPress websites use an advanced framework and theme that may not be compatible with all WordPress hosts. We can provide support for setting up your site on another host for an additional fee, provided that the host is compatible with WordPress and the custom framework we’re using.

• Do you offer a warranty for sites you build?

  Yes! When you host your site with us, we offer a 30-day warranty where we will fix any bugs that were not detected during pre-launch testing. When you host your site elsewhere, we do not provide a warranty. During development, we host your site on our servers and ask that you test your new site on our servers to ensure that everything is working properly. Due to differences in hosting, we cannot provide a warranty when your site is hosted elsewhere.

• Do you offer a service to make content updates for me?

  Yes! If you’re interested in having us make all updates to the content on your site, we can make those for an additional fee. We offer hosting + one hour of content updates per month for the rate of $150 a month. If you want two hours of content updates per month instead, the fee is $200 a month, which includes hosting. Hours are bankable up to three hours, meaning if you don’t use all your hours for a month, you can save the unused hours, up to three hours. These hours can also be used towards custom development or adding new functionality to your site as well as content updates.
