A publication should make you want to read. Fieldnote is a free editorial website template for independent magazines, journals and blogs, built around newspaper-inspired typography, a strong front page and generous article layouts.

A lead story, most-read list and latest stories give you several ways to introduce your writing. Readers can explore a section through the archive filters or settle into a long-form article. A mobile menu keeps navigation practical on smaller screens.

Seven HTML pages: home, four complete sample articles, an archive and an about page.

Editable CSS and vanilla JavaScript.

Nine bundled sample photographs.

A README, MIT licence and separate image credits.

Change the publication name, sections, colours and typography, then replace the sample stories and photography. Duplicate an article page when you need another story. There is no build step or package installation: edit the source files directly and publish them on your hosting. Photographs are local; Google Fonts load externally with fallbacks.

Fieldnote is a static template. It does not include a CMS, search, RSS, comments or pagination. Five additional front-page cards are sample headlines without article links. The newsletter form opens an email draft by default; connect your own endpoint to collect sign-ups directly. Sample articles contain fictional bylines, quotes and figures to replace before publication.

The code is MIT-licensed by Niko Minadze for personal and commercial use. Retain the copyright and licence notices; a visible credit is optional. Photographs have separate terms in IMAGES.md.
