Most streaming platforms focus on subscription models, which often exclude users who prefer flexibility or cannot commit to recurring payments. Additionally, piracy and poor personalization are recurring problems.

Owosh Films is a secure, pay-per-view movie streaming platform designed to solve challenges in the African entertainment space. The product enables users to rent movies flexibly, pay in their local currency, and enjoy personalized streaming experiences across web and mobile.

I began by studying the product requirement documents and mapping user journeys to uncover where users and administrators would encounter the most friction. My strategy was to create a design that felt as polished as global platforms like Netflix but adapted to African realities such as variable internet speeds, geo-restrictions, and the need for local payment options.

For users, I designed simple onboarding with email verification, multi-profile support, and wallet funding flows that integrated Flutterwave’s payment system across more than twenty currencies.

I made the rental process clear by displaying transparent pricing, enforcing seven-day rental periods, and embedding countdown timers that reflect device-locked DRM restrictions. For admins, I designed a dashboard that brought together movie management, geo-restriction tools, revenue analytics, user behavior insights, and review moderation into one seamless experience.

The design system was built in Figma with reusable components and responsive layouts, ensuring consistency across the web app, mobile app, and admin interface. Every screen was created with a mobile-first mindset while maintaining adaptability for desktop viewing.

The final design created a scalable wallet and multi-currency experience that simplified payments for African users while reinforcing trust. Piracy risks were reduced through clear DRM-driven rental flows and transparent rental timers. Administrators could, for the first time, manage content, payments, rentals, and reviews all in one central hub, streamlining their workflows. Perhaps most importantly, the system was designed with the flexibility to accommodate future features such as producer dashboards and affiliate programs without disrupting the existing structure.

Working on Owosh Films sharpened my ability to balance international UX standards with regional needs. I learned to design for both user delight and business integrity, ensuring that payments, rentals, and reviews were not only smooth but trustworthy. It also reinforced the importance of contract clarity and scope management when dealing with additional client requests. Ultimately, this project reminded me that great design is built on clarity, trust, and foresight. Every element, from a smooth wallet top-up to a visible rental countdown, contributes to user confidence and long-term platform success.
