Script Reader

Ana Mancholas

Script Writer
Edimburgh Short Film Festival
Did you know that most scripts aren't read first thing by producers? In order for your script to reach the producer, it will have to impress the readers first. Script readers are the first gatekeepers of the film industry. They read your script and write a report or coverage, detailing their opinion and, most importantly if they deem it worthy of the producers' time.
A script report is a detailed document that includes notes on every aspect of your story, from theme to structure to characters. It can be writen for a variety of reasons and in different formats. The two main reasons are:
- Help the writer to improve their work before actually sending it to producers or contests.
- Inform a production company that the work is suitable or interesting to aquire.
In 2016 and 2017 I volunteered as a script reader for the Edinburgh Short Film Festival. I read scripts submited to the festival and wrote full professional reports on them.
