About the project

This was a sample I made for a YouTube channel called catching killers. Catching killers, who have 1.29M subscribers, is a YouTube channel that specialises in true crime. They are passionate sharing stories, going over the phycology of criminals, solving mysteries and goes over interrogation techniques.

Why did I make this sample?

I wanted to work with them so I shot them this sample video I made which took about 3 days. It took longer than expected as I was constantly refining what I originally made to make it better. It did lead to them contacting me and they asked me to make another sample which I did make but that's for another time.

The research phase

So I started off with some simple research. This was simply to see how they made their videos and I studied their competition on how they made theirs. From that I made a plan on how the sample was going to be. I then looked for an interesting case to use.
I noticed that in all the videos they always used cases that have cop cams. So I knew that it was useless to make a sample about a case that didn't have any cop cam footage.
Naturally, I searched on YouTube for cop cam videos and took the most interesting one, which was this. I then went ahead and looked for more details of this case online so that I can add it into the video.

The video editing

At this stage I had everything ready to go. I went ahead and created the sample. First I made the decision on how I wanted the video to look and what part it was meant to be (for example, the intro of the video).
I decided for the sample I was going to do the intro for a few reasons,
The intro can make or break the video because its what the viewer will first see. By making my intro really good I can show off that I can make the most important part of the video and understand its importance.
I have a reason to show off all my skills that will be needed for the role in a few short minutes. From engaging subtitles to clean motion graphics.
Sound effects. They are half of the experience and showing how good mine are I show that I am a suitable for the role.

Challenges

There really wasn't any challenges because it was a small sample. I did, like I mentioned earlier, redo a lot of parts that I had already made simply because I believed I could do it better.
Unfortunately I've lost the file so this is the best I can do to show the process

Sending the sample

I sent the sample on the site they were on called YT jobs. Then they got back to me asking for me to follow there script for a second sample.
