⭐️ The Brief

Joseph is a Cloud Consultant in Houston, TX that helps businesses migrate their data and storage to the cloud. He helps older offices and companies that still store data locally and migrate them to the cloud and automate it for them.
His current clients vary from lawyers to health clinics, schools, and universities.
For this business, Joseph did not include a target audience as his customers can be just about anybody!

👉🏽 Brand Design Requirements

Design tone:
Friendly
Trustworthy
Happy
Liable
Sturdy
Memorable

☝🏽 First Steps

In the beginning stages, I had asked Joseph to send over any logos and designs that is his "vibe". I also had asked him to send me a list of his competitors and his current website so I can see visually what his website currently looks like (he's going to update it soon!).
Here's are the mood boards that was presented:
Between these two mood boards, Joseph was able to give feedback by identifying the few designs he felt were in the direction he wanted to go in.
We were able to narrow it down to three images he felt were closest to what he wants.

✍🏽 Draft Designs

Once again, the fun part begins! As always, I always begin designs with a very rough sketch and only drawn in black.
Initially, I knew Joseph wanted something with clouds and that he liked the "punched out" look. He mentioned he really liked the cloud that looked like it was in between the letter "o" in the three images after the mood board reviews. I decided to take that feedback and run off with as many things I could think of. I take this time as a quick brain dump and sketch out only the many things that pop in my head.
Here, I was able to vectorize the sketches I created on Adobe Illustrator. At the time, I thought I was on to something, but when I showed Joseph, he mentioned that I was missing the "punch out" factor of his cloud. I knew this meant I had to include some sort of overlap to show the effect he's wanting.
I went back to the drawing board and created some sort of overlap with the cloud I had created. Once I sent a couple of these options to Joseph, he was able to select the few that he really liked.
More processes of elimination occurred and I was able to already add color to some of these because Joseph really loved the color palette I chose - so that was super easy! The evolution of the icon for his logo has really shifted a lot, I felt. But I knew we were on to something when Joseph pointed to the left on the middle row!
Adding the type to the logo made it much more clear that we were in the right direction. Selecting a font for his logo was also super easy because Joseph fell in love with this one almost immediately! Now, I felt more confident in this design and couldn't wait to continue sharpening the designs.
I chose a circle for Joseph's submark logo because a circle symbolizes wholeness, stability, and collaboration - which I believe fits right in with the keywords he and I discussed at the beginning of this project.

✨ The Final Brand Board

Almost about 3 weeks later, Joseph signed off on the final designs and we have our full and complete brand identity for Joseph!
Here's the brand board for Cloud Consulting and IT Services!

💭 Final Thoughts

I'm so thankful that Joseph had found me through LinkedIn. I have never thought that I could connect with people and find clients through LinkedIn - which I'm glad I'm so wrong about! I loved working on this project and was so excited to see that Joseph is in the IT industry because I haven't had a client in this industry yet. Now that I've dipped my toes with IT designs, I'm looking forward to another one hopefully in the near future!
