I bought the Triumph Speed 400 from Keerthi Triumph in Bangalore a few weeks ago, and I have been enjoying riding it ever since. The bike looks stunning in black, and the glossy finish is amazing. It attracts a lot of attention on the road, and I get compliments from other bikers and pedestrians.
The quality on the finish and the design of each component feels well thought and classy. It has a round headlight, a flat handlebar with bar-end mirrors, and a one-piece seat. It also has a semi-digital instrument console, a 300mm front disc brake, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 398.15 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm. It has a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch, and a switchable traction control system. The bike has a hybrid spine tubular frame with a bolt-on subframe, and a suspension setup of 43mm BFF USD forks and a gas-charged rear shock. The bike weighs 176 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 14 liters.
The bike has a powerful engine that delivers great acceleration and refinement. The clutch and gearbox are smooth and responsive, and the bike handles well in different road conditions. The riding position is committed and comfortable at the same time, giving me a good balance of sportiness and ergonomics.
However, the bike is not perfect, and it has some drawbacks that I noticed. The most annoying one is the vibrations that occur after 100 km/h and 5000 rpm. The vibrations are quite noticeable and affect the ride quality and comfort. I hope Triumph can fix this issue in the future models.
Another problem is the instrument cluster, which is poorly designed and hard to read. The rpm meter is not properly readable, and the odometer has some errors. The instrument cluster also lacks some features that I would expect from a modern bike, such as a digital speedometer, a fuel gauge, and a gear indicator.
The bike is also moderately fuel-efficient, as I am getting only 33 km/L on average. This is more than what I expected from a 400 cc bike, and it means that I don't have to refuel more often. The bike also has a decent fuel tank capacity of 14 liters, which adds to the range.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase of the Triumph Speed 400, as it is a fun and stylish bike that offers a thrilling riding experience. However, I also wish that Triumph could improve some aspects of the bike, such as the vibrations, the instrument cluster, and the fuel efficiency. I would recommend this bike to anyone who is looking for a sporty and agile bike, but also be aware of its flaws.
