Airways Brewing needed a refreshed website that was more device-friendly and better incorporated the company’s social media presence. Analytics showed more than 65% of customers visited the site using a phone or tablet, but their experience was sub-par. Customers accessing food & drink menus from QR codes meant menu item lists needed to be easily comprehendible with minimal scrolling.
With the majority of users accessing the site using their devices, and with the switch to QR code mobile menus, optimization for those guests was critical. Sketches were done with internal groups, then wireframe mockups were tested with a group of customers before deciding on an optimal layout.
Impact
The finished product presents a cleaner, easier-to-understand layout to guests and also aligns with the corporate brand. The home page was de-cluttered to allow guests to easier choose a destination page. The header was shortened to reduce scrolling and allow more content on screen.
With restaurant margins already tight, QR code ordering means saving on printed menu and server costs. Anchor links take guests directly to menu sections to speed up ordering/re-ordering. The new mobile site accomplishes the goals we set at the beginning of the project - cost savings and improved usability, along with exciting visuals and compelling content with a strong focus on accessibility.
