Spirit Awards

Spirit Awards—Type design, storyboarding, branding, and motion graphics at Pentagram for the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards, an event celebrating the year’s best independent films, filmmakers, and actors.



Our team developed the show's visual identity, storyboard category animations, and executed the show's print ephemera, stage design, and broadcast graphics.

Typographic patterns were fully integrated into every aspect of the event, creating an immersive environment of trippy, hypnotic repetition. This was amplified by the set design, which was built of patterns of linked and concentric circles and radial lines––the pair of enormous circular screens on stage appeared to transform with the type, physically expanding and receding into the space for a trompe l’oeil effect.
