Area citizens were keenly aware that taxpayer dollars were not aligned with the promises politicians were making to their constituents. Construction of new hospitals was being approved in areas saturated with services, while underserved areas faced shorter life expectancy, chronic illness, and minimal access to health services in the community. The citizens wanted this issue addressed prior to an upcoming election.
