Every day is the same for me, getting up in the morning, freshening up, and then leaving for work. I have been following this routine for god knows how many years. The fun element is missing in my life. Instead of saying fun, I can say it as a surprise or something which I look forward to doing is missing. I earn good enough for me but still, something is missing in my life.
I stay in an apartment in the city center, on the 9th floor. All my boredom, messed-up life came to an end when my opposite flat was rented out. The first time I saw him, his expressive eyes, good height, and soft smile captivated my soul.
After that day I met him in the elevator of my building almost every day. We always greeted each other and shared smiles but never spoke. Whenever I used to say something he used to smile and keep quiet. I concluded he is not a big talker.
On my birthday I gathered all my courage and went to my neighbor’s house with some sweets in my hand.
Nervousness was all over my face
Finally, I rang the bell, and a Middle Aged woman opened the door, she greeted me with a smile, and after introducing myself she called me inside.
We introduced each other, we spoke about our work and I gave her the sweet, but I could not see him around. So I asked her
“Where her son was”
Her answer baffled me
“She didn’t have a son”
I was flustered, and a little embarrassed seeing that I came to the wrong house maybe.
But I have not seen him before in the building. Only after the new family moved in I saw him. Thinking about my stupidity I went to the apartment manager to ask if any other family moved in.
But to my disappointment, no one else moved in. If he was already here then I might have missed him. I roamed the entire building with the hope of seeing him somewhere, but the disappointment was the only answer.
The next day arrived,
As usual, I was getting ready, with the hope that I will be able to meet him in the elevator at least.
My guess was right he was there, in the same position, I smiled, and he smiled as well.
I entered and stood next to him, today I am going to talk to him no matter what.
I wanted to know something about him, I brought chocolates with me so that I can have a head start with the conversation.
I forwarded the chocolate to him and said ‘Yesterday was my birthday’.
He kept staring at the chocolate without taking it.
Suddenly the elevator doors dinged, and in came the apartment manager.
Seeing me forwarding the chocolate he asked and I lost my breath
Coming in he asked, “Are you practicing giving chocolate to someone”
I gave him a blank stare.
He continued “Why are you giving the chocolate to the wall” because my hands were still in the air.
I turned toward my crush
And he was not there
Air was knocked out of my lungs, not seeing him there. Was I dreaming all these days,
No, I was not and that was confirmed when I saw his reflection in the elevator door. That is the last thing I remember before falling unconscious.
Hope you guys enjoy it!!!
