A bespoke publication for Artica Svalbard









Conceptual design for print

The book is singer sewn and printed on recycled paper in two spot colours that reflect the frigid waters of the artic. It features a dust jacket that is made from plastic recovered from the Andaman Sea.





The text gets bolder, or darker, progressively down the page to mimic the ocean getting darker with depth. This was done through the use of variable fonts and JavaScript.





Titles are set in Legacy Vulture, by Norwegian foundry The Pyte Foundry. The text is set in Capraia Variable by Cast Foundry.



Design process:

• Initial concepts for typographic approach of the book
• Material and print process investigations, including blank dummy books
• Complete design of the book
• Liaising with the printer on production details ahead of printing
